AmE vs BrE
No, you don't understand that (You can stop thinking of abbreviations now)
It stands for American English VS British English, something I am learning now. (literally, m writing when my lecturer is lecturing)
What's shocking is that we are so much integrated that it is quite hard to differentiate between the both.
I myself am facing problems with the both, which is very confusing...
Just to name a few:
Chips Vs French Fries
I thought chips=potato chips, thin sliced and crunchy, but it is actually French Fries in AmE!
Come to think of it, now I understand the concept of Fish and Chips.
Take Vs Have
Take a bath, have a bath; which is correct?
Both! Take a bath is the American way of speaking whereas have is the British way.
The
They are taken to hospital.
They are taken to the hospital
Yes it is confusing, but actually, the second one is AmE.
Oiy, remembering the essays I corrected before this, I feel bad.
To
Give it me/Give it to me
Another classic example of BrE and AmE
Somehow, the British delete 'to', which sounds weird to me, it sounds like baby talk.
Has he brought them you?
Why so?
Political, distinctiveness and culture.
For me, I think it's because there is no single standardization since a long time ago.
Even if they do have them, it's internal, only among BrE or AmE themselves.
So to say,
English is hard.

Human Nature
LET 105 week 9, we learnt about human nature.
Vain, pride, love, hatred...
It is an ending string of emotions and behavior.
Dr.T asked us, why would a man justify, reminisce, empathize and regret his actions? (we were studying Thomas Hardy's The Man He Killed)
I answered jokingly, "because he is human"
I don't know how much my words can carry.
Dr.T said, yes, it is the human nature that causes man to act indecently.
He then tells us, many countries are still at war nowadays.
If, let's say, we put aside all of the human nature and behavior, can different countries be friends? Can enemy be friends?
The whole class went quiet, deep in thought.
Yes, I believe, if not for the vanity, the selfishness, also including the materialistic and others, enemies can actually be friends.
This reminds me of an interview with Lee Chong Wei I saw last week.
He said, even though he and LinDan were fierce enemy (probably arch enemy) in the badminton court, off court, they are good friends.
They can talk about anything, cars, family and others, except badminton.
Made me realize, the man is so vulnerable with these flaws, but yet, it is this very flaw that made us human.
Salute to Thomas Hardy, salute to the beauty of being imperfect.

Penang Friends' Reaction on Earthquake
It's a 'new' thing here cause...
Well, we never had earthquake (that serious) here before...
I heard it's an aftershock of the Bandar Aceh 8.7 earthquake. (condolesence to everyone there)
What happens here? (Most are taken from FB statuses XD)
- OMG earthquake!
- Am I shaking or is the ground beneath me shaking?
- Run for your life!!!!!
- 2012 is happening! The end is near...
- Is it an earthquake? No I don't think so, must the construction on-going
- Whoa, this is cool~
- Weee! First time feeling the earthquake
- Pening pening pening pening... @@
- Yes, I don't have to do assignments!
- Pray for Indonesia...
- Call friends and family, ask "Ei u feel it ah?"
- Sing "I feel the earth, move, under my feet; I feel the sky tumbling down...."
- I feel it here in XXX part of Penang, I feel it there in XXX part of Kedah...
- Treasure life, love your family, die in peace...
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, post everything in Facebook (o.0)
And I was yelling at my family members to come down and hide... Silly me...

Personal Relationships make me =(
What is Personal Relationship (PR)?
By definition, relation between persons.
The dictionaries always make it sounds so simple...
I have been facing some problems while I was talking with others
I found out that I make mistakes while talking, then I'll only realize it when the other person twisted his/her face...
I guess I tend to talk before thought. Not a good thing definitely.
Just that day, I actually said "Study makes me half dead (as the Chinese would say it)" and I saw my friend beside me giving weird looks.
Then I remembered my friend lost a loved one lately. I feel real embarrassed.
Another recent case is that, I kindda accidentally mocked a sensitive friend by revealing her result in class.
I guess she was mad because by the looks of it, she was not happy with it at all.
I believe Asian are sometimes more kiasu than others, but if I were in her shoes, I would hate me too. =(
Yesterday, when my lecturer was asking the class about a replacement class, one of my friend told the lecturer that she can't make it to class because she has another class.
Clever me actually went ahead and said "why don't you miss your class?" just because I was getting annoyed.
Hmm, I feel like a devil now, don't remind me.
Eventually, I did apologize to some of my friends and, in a way, compensate the others.
A good thing is, I realize my mistakes (well, at least some of them) and I am willing to change.
I even bought some books on PR with my voucher. XD
All in all, THINK BEFORE YOU TALK, sometimes it does make a great change.

What is the point of studying in uni?
This is the result of random thoughts after what happened today.
Incident:
I was in Dr.G's tutorial class today and we have contradictory statements.
Dr.G was telling us that OE (Old English) pronunciation does not have any diphthongs (2 vowels).
However, I read in a publication that there are diphthongs in OE and they are namely 'eo' and 'ea'.
Hmm, how strange. Dr.G later stated that from his readings, it is said that diphthongs developed later in the OE.
After thoughts:
Nobody could be absolutely right or wrong in this case. Answers can only be found through more readings and findings (which we find it a problem because most of us are already busy with other stuff at hand, nope, not 9gag this time, truly course works and co-curriculum).
I remember the saying that nothing in this world is of absolute.
So researchers here now and then are still debating over stuff that are still in the unknown because of lack of evidence.
For example, take our grammarians Chomsky and Halliday.
Fight all you want guys but both theories have their strength and weakness.
Which brings me to thought no.2.
Why are we here?
I myself appreciate the chance of learning and gaining knowledge but I see friends around me taking this lightly and I begin to doubt if I am right.
I don't blame them because they are here for the "passport", as what the Dean meant by the Degree Cert.
I like to learn, but learning now is waaaaay different with learning back then.
People now are more practical. They see things in a yes-or-no fashion.
For instance, is this useful to me? Yes. Proceed. Is this relevant? No. Forget.
What is the point of going through university if we were to categorize every knowledge according to the practicality of it?
Is it necessary or mandatory for us to know everything?
What good will it bring?

I am not saying whether this attitude of questioning is good or bad, it's just a food for thought.
It might be right, it might not be.
Who knows?
They say nothing in this world is of absolute.
=)
Oh P/S, does anyone know anything about the diphthongs in OE?
Do enlighten me.

Update
It's been quite a long time.
I know, my mental alarm clock had been ringing me for the past few weeks.
However, I do have a perfectly good reason to be so. Yeah...
I am busy
Hah!
See? XD
Well, it's the start of the new sem, it takes lots of getting used to.
Firstly, I am more active.
Active in the sense that I am organizing an event PLUS I am performing.
Huhu, it's gonna be fun.
M glad and thankful that the ones beside me are as supportive as always.
To my dar, m thankful that you understand the little changes I am going through and choose to laugh with me whenever hardship may arise.
To my friends, thanks for being here with me. Although a close friend of mine suffered from a twist of fate, but believe that everything happens to make you stronger, and we will be there for ya, as always. =)

To my parents and my family, being with you guys and being happy fuels me enough to face daily challenges. To my dar, m thankful that you understand the little changes I am going through and choose to laugh with me whenever hardship may arise.

It's the start, of something new... =)
It feels so right, to be here with you... yea...
HSM... Always giving people the false impression that school is FUN and MUSICAL
Haha, well it's the start of a new sem!
YEY!
Is it nice?
Well, kindda packed.
More courses to take, more things to do... Some more the demand is higher now...
Gotto do means gotto do!
I was browsing through old vids the other day
(Reason being, my uni blocked Youtube, sad case... I blogged about it before)
I hear this quote by Wes (inspired by Phil) from WFW:
"I wanna stay stupid so I can be smarter"
LOL
Come to think of it, it does make sense!
Awww, Phil...

To Whitney, The Voice
The voice, they called it
She once sang among the angels
Her songs touched hearts and souls
To me, she was one of my biggest idol
You just can't come across a voice like hers in the streets
Some more with the "vortex" or down swirl of the music industry
She became one of the greatest asset
But now she is gone
What could be expect next?
Other legends coming and going too?
A tribute, to Whitney
The voice
My inspiration
God smile when she sings
